Neat little article on something that happened in 'The War on Drugs' and tells what raiders can get away with.
Totally pisses me off. How can people say the war on drugs is a good thing is beyond me. Big brother, go fuck yourself.

Date: 2004-02-02 10:35 pm (UTC)The fact is, it was a bad raid. A very bad raid. They made a fatal mistake in not sending an undercover agent to recon the farmhouse before they moved in. Any police officer worth his salt knows that the word of a criminal alone isn't enough, although it holds a lot of sway. What's more, if what the man says isn't backed up by evidence at the scene, he gets into a whole lot more shit than he would've before.
I'm not surprised it turned out the way it did. I know a couple SWAT guys, and I know the amount of training they go through to look at a target, see if he has a weapon or not, and not fire until there is a clear and present danger to a life. These officers were not SWAT. They weren't even SORT (Swat's little brother in the small 'burg's). They were just cops, and they were acting on orders. I'm not going to have them arrested in this case, nor in any other unless they knowingly went in and did something wrong. You want to howl for blood? Go after the little shit that 'tipped' them to the alleged 6 keys of weed in the house. Go after the planners of the raid for not calling in DEA or Metropolitan SWAT backup. Don't blame the officers for doing their job. I'd want a well-meaning cop watching my back any day.

Besides /weed/ isn't a dangerous drug. Meth - there's a dangerous drug for you. I could care less if reform ever happened for most drugs, but marijuana is scientifically proven to be about as harmful as cigarettes and alcohol, and that's the part that pisses me off about how they do busts like this over WEED. Give me a break, for real.
If the government would legalize it and make selling illegal except for specially licensed people, they could make prices competative, force sellers out of business, and keep the drug safe. That would be a great way to work it, but i doubt it'll happen before my generation is in congress.
You'll hafta read the excerpt from doublespeak i have in my next entry. I think you'll find it interesting.
Beyond that, "Well meaning" is a broad term i wouldn't dare use for any sort of police force. Well meaning can be anything from political assassination to helping an old lady after she fell.
