Feb. 2nd, 2011 04:45 pmAt least Allegheny College doesn't have an application fee. This is probably because their estimated total cost for one year of attendance is $30,000US+. They are pretty outspoken about need and merit-based financial aid though, so there could be a good chance of that being sliced in half. Which would make it comparable to basically every other college I've looked at, besides Grove City.
The thing is, I won't take out $15,000 in private loans a year on top of $12,500 in stafford. It's simply not worth it. If it ends up working out like that, I'll look elsewhere. I'll go to Edinboro or somewhere equally no-namish. Or I'll think about going to trade school before I go back to college at all...and get a life and career going before I enroll anywhere.
My personal essay was actually rather scathing. It was titled, "A Letter to the Keepers of the Gate." The whole process of filling out one application...and all of the essays...probably took me around six hours. If they can't accept what I had to say, they can forget about getting my money. Simple as that. I'm the one with the buying power here, not them.
However, I have a good feeling about all of it. Something tells me Allegheny is looking for someone just like me, with my varied interests and background, and my real world experience.
Grove City I may still try and apply to. We'll see. I have to fork out 50 bucks to do so.
Parents are willing to help with getting the whole transcript business dealt with.
If the Colleges want my official SAT scores, they can pay for the archive fees. It shouldn't be relevant after two years of higher education and a 3.81 GPA to back up my claims of exceptional academic ability. Besides the fact I know I write as well as some graduate students do...and I should write that well. Considering I've had years to hone my skills, even without the guidance of "experts."
