Conceptual Singularity
Dec. 26th, 2010 09:26 pmIf the amount of knowledge we have available to us - the number of skills we need to function as useful citizens - continues to increase, eventually the mind of man will be incapable of functioning adequately. An interesting thought with regards to the singularity, in any case - at that point, computers will be taking over the vast majority of all tasks...including research and development of myriad varieties, and possibly even maintenance of technology that has gone beyond the comprehension of man.
Unless of course, there's some way for us to start enhancing our own processing power...and maybe the drug and cybernetic market will provide some avenues in that respect in the next decade or two. There's certainly some research out there on drugs that grow new brain cells, but I wonder how far we can push the limit.
