So I was looking through my measly 128 friends on Myspace when I realized something.

At some point METROPOLIS RECORDS added me.

Okay, for those who aren't aware, Metropolis Records was once the label of VNV NATION (may even still be!) as well as a -shitload- of other, -very good- electronic music...including Assemblage 23.

Considering -I- didn't add -them- that means there are people watching. And fuck, I really need to do something spine tingling. Maybe if I contact them personally after I achieve that, I'll be on my way.

Because I'm beginning to see the purpose of labels...and that's to get your music to a broader audience...this isn't about the money anymore.

Had this same convo, minus the NIN with that girl at the bar over new years. She was a huge APC fan. I am too, but they are a little too mainstreamish in their composition for me to want to learn from them.

Tool is really appealing to me because of their esoteric metaphors. There's a lot in their music that's drawn from hermeticism/qabalah/etc and that's beautiful to me, because I know so few actually grok that, if you grok me.

NIN, well...I don't think there's anyone that can't call him king (even if he wears a crown of shit.) He made music that, by majority standards, shouldn't have gotten where it did...and really, there haven't been too many of his ilk, if at all after him, to break through to where he's at.

Married man he is now, though. My heart goes out to him...he deserves it if his music is any indication of the emotional suffering he's been through.
