Amazing as the world is, freedom is still something most people never taste. If you ask me, a hunter gatherer was more free than we are. With every purchase comes another chain, and with every bit of debt another burden.

So is it freedom from felt obligations that you're whingeing about not having (which is just as available to you as it is to the hunter-gatherer), or freedom from consequences of one's actions (which is just as unavailable to you as it is to the hunter-gatherer)?

Neither.

This is about slavery. It was one thing to be a slave to the environment, but it is an entirely different matter now that we are held captive by our own kind.

Except, y'know, nothing in your life actually constitutes slavery, you are not owned chattel, and you can pick up, go somewhere else and do something else any damned time you like. Whatever it is that's stopping you from doing so is felt obligation, awareness of the consequences of your actions, or both, as opposed to, say, manacles around your limbs.

You have the power to take any of the options available to you at any time. You'll make yourself and others less miserable when you start owning that power and stop pretending other people are making your decisions for you.

Living in a homeless shelter wasn't something I ever imagined myself doing, but I do have to wonder how that would look to an employer in a place more lucrative than here. I wonder if they have showers? Hah.
