Real Unemployment
Jul. 30th, 2015 11:00 amIn 2014, the IRS had received 113 million tax returns by April 11th.
There were 245,273,438 people over the age of 18 in 2014.
That works out to be a greater than 50% unemployment rate for people over the age of 18. Yeah, some people file late or don't file even though they should. I imagine that's a fairly small fraction. There's also some disabled individuals in there, and joint filers (but I'm not sure if the IRS would count joint filers as two tax returns or not - they might - no easy way to find out.)
Even accounting for those aspects, I think it's fairly safe to assume the unemployment rate is above 25%.
