the RedLetterMedia videos that minxy talked about have totally made me realize why I don't like watching modern movies anymore.
They all use too much CG. I'm sick of CG. Sick of it.
It reminds me of one day when I was playing Modern Warfare 2, looking at the textures and modeling. All I could think was, "Oh, you know? This reminds me of those early 3D deer hunting games for PC. It hardly looks any better at all. They've increased the vision distance and fit more polygons on the screen. It still doesn't look real. At all. Doesn't look any closer."
I am now convinced we will never be able to create anything realistic with CG. There will always be a quality to it that will prevent the artificial nature being undetectable.
MUD games are still better technically. At least with those the person's imagination plays a role. The only thing modern games allow imagination to be used on is min/maxing. When you read a description, just like when you read a book, you are recreating your own personal subjective interpretation.
