Taking it a little further.
Feb. 16th, 2009 12:16 amSomething else one might note about live TooL performances. They almost always have a Jewish star.
Tree of Life.
Jewish Star.
Hmm.
I wonder.
In an interview they are talking about how filming their concerts and doing clever cuts and rolls to try and "heighten" the atmosphere takes away from it. That going to see there is something "bigger" going on live is important.
What exactly IS this BIGGER thing going on?
It is probably best that I don't describe my opinion in full. However, I do not believe it is coincidence that so many musicians proclaim some kind of connection to Qabalah. Then again, should I /really/ believe that these individuals actually dedicated themselves to movement from the lower spheres to the higher while still living their lives?
The only thing that makes me continue to wonder about TooL is the way Maynard almost always appears on stage. He never looks at the crowd, he's always looking beyond, contorted and moving strangely as though he's having some kind of spiritual episode, or is no longer in control of his body. Call it LSD. Or call it Magick.
Listening to a live version of Triad with an 8 minute drum solo left me with the sensation I was almost projecting, the same kind of sensation that I used to get when I meditated myself into very deep states of consciousness.
