I do not claim to be an expert but I presume that the human psychology
must have been affected significantly by the advent of television and
video (a mass scale) as well as audio and even text.

- Mass production of the same "programming" that many individuals are
influenced by (the majority of individuals)
- The repetition of the same archetypal plot lines in plays,
screenwriting, cinema, television series
- The repetition of the same chord progressions and key forms of scale
in music that evoke similar and mostly predictable emotional responses
in people (and the use of this alongside Cinema, National Anthems,
etc.)
- The repetition of the same literary canons throughout history

Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and
expecting a different result. Well, if I may make a deduction,
whatever it is we are experiencing in reality today is very likely
insanity, and we can not expect a different outcome as long as we
continue to further the same paradigm (the canons we have been using
for generations now.) Lets take this further -

One can only conclude that individuals who immerse themselves in this
"programming" will evolve along an identifiable and likely predictable
path according to their genetic type, IQ and environmental variables.

Most environmental factors in life are now controlled - Wal-Mart,
K-Mart, the furniture we buy, the paint we use, the decorations we
use, the soap we use...most brand-name companies sell the same types
of food (that are required by the FDA to have the exact contents
listed in the exact amounts) produced by the same companies. To add
further insult to injury, Wal-Marts (and plenty of other stores) are
usually designed exactly the same way architecturally, so it is a case
of even more environmental control. Most individuals buy their
clothing from the same major companies; further environmental control.
We have the same modes of transportation, on the same highways, with
the same sights, sounds, and signs.

Of course, controlled environmental factors are a more recent
addition, and I make no attempt to postulate further control, although
I presume it is likely. It only takes a little imagination to imagine
(even as a layman) what controlled nutrition could do to a human body
and mind.

The variety of programming as a whole is irrelevant when we see the
underlying patterns and archetypal formula used in its generation
(likely unintentional at this point, as the framework was already laid
and we are at least in second or third generation
cinema/screenwriters, and far beyond that generation in writing and
music.) Start trying to analogize some of what I am saying to Brave
New World or 1984, and I think you'll see neither of those books were
"worries about the future."

We're already there, have been there. How long was the bible used as a
standard for teaching individuals rudimentary literacy? Now we have
public schools (that's another great one!) that use texts that all
include information that is almost certainly the same across the
board. Individuals and authors outside the canon are generally
ignored. I didn't hear Noam Chomsky mentioned once in any college or
high school class, and have never seen him on American television, but
he was labeled the #1 intellectual in the world.

"He who controls the canon controls everything."

Maybe a little sinister, but I'll leave that up to you to decide.

The claim isn't that it is a big government conspiracy

It's less sinister than that, more a matter of an issue I'm not sure is positive for the evolution of humanity...kind of like hospitals...
