Reflections
Dec. 13th, 2003 02:11 amI finally got to see Ghost in the Shell.
Kick ass anime, period.
What is also interesting to note, is that in the area where she fights the tank/meets the puppetmaster, the large tree symbol upon the wall which gets ripped up by lots of automatic weapons fire is, at least I think, the Tree of Life.
It seems to me that Ghost in the Shell was all about the journey to expanded consciousness.
In any case, I have stopped and thought a moment about something I haven't been able to decide upon until now..
You see, humanity as a whole supposedly benefits from science and technology. Science and Technology are kind of viewed as humankinds movement from the past to now, kind of like stepping stones, collection of knowledge, whatever. I think humanity also believes that technology will lead us someday to an age of eternal peace and prosperity.
I suppose that what I say now might seem a bit dark and foreboding - you might cast it off without a thought, because it's absurd. But I want you to think for a moment about what exactly it takes to make advancements in technology.
It takes an analytical mind. Having an analytical mind naturally roots one deeply in reality, a physical reality that is, this world that we know with touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing and supposedly everyone else feels/tastes/smells/sees/hears the same things we do when put in the same places as we are.
One realizes then, that this analytical mind is almost an antithesis to what is required for meditation. Meditation is an internal experience, the microcosm that mirrors the macrocosm. Science and technology are the study and discovery of the macrocosm, Meditation, Enlightenment if you will, is the study and discovery of the microcosm.
However, there is a realization that decidedly, at least for me, determines what is the better path.
Science and Technology can be used in ways that are detrimental to human kind. They can bring pain and suffering to millions, they can give those with it the power over those without it.
Meditation, or Enlightenment if one reaches it, cannot be used to bring pain and suffering. With the realization of true existence, it is simultaneously realized that the powers bestowed upon the enlightened are useless to be used in any way but to help improve humanity's world, even if it is only with a single individual at a time.
So, you tell me. What's the better path to take? Science created the Atom Bomb, and what has meditation and yoga and enlightenement brought to the ascended masters?
It has brought the knowledge and wisdom to teach others the ways of peace and balance.
However, you might say to me, "But technology has helped many as well."
That's why you decide for yourself which path is better.
But I know that I want the path that will never lead into the darkness of destruction and decay.
So do not tell me that I am wrong for not having faith in reality and the rules we have created to box ourselves into.
