Political Projections:
Republicans will control the Congress, resulting in stalemate of any further legislation. They will not have a large enough majority, however, to pass any legislation themselves. The tea party will continue to be a thorn in the side of democrats, but won't obtain much of a foothold, as they are not favored by either party in particular.
America will begin to look more and more like the Ottoman empire. California will pass Proposition 19, which will result in an uproar from the federal drug warriors, who will expend a great deal of energy and investment involving themselves on the west coast. This will only result in more bankrupting of the federal government. Furthermore, drug cartels will focus themselves in the rest of the United States, and the drug warriors will not have the money and personnel to fight on two fronts. They will be defeated, and eventually this may result in country-wide legalization.
California may very well begin a process of seceding from the United States as a result of federal involvement in their state affairs, if federal policy does not change. Federal arrests of their citizens, and the shutting down of expensive infrastructure they will develop in order to support Proposition 19, will only serve to fuel their fire. Californians are notoriously liberal, and with a republican congress, there will be an even more well-defined fault line.
Sarah Palin will start campaigning for the 2012 presidential race. The uneducated, fueled by the failing public education system of the US, will only serve to help her in her aims. The only explanation for her political visibility is extensive corporate funding, and I do not believe her to be a friend of the anarchist, the socialist, the communist, or the general egalitarian.
Redrawn districts will heavily favor republicans.
Either we will see a relative flat-line with regards to our economy, or we will see another dip as winter strikes.
Public sector funding and jobs will be cut once republicans control the congress, following Britain and France's lead. Hopefully we see a public response more similar to France, however.
