In the beginning, there was the internet.

It was a collection, mainly of colleges and military organizations at first. But it involved only one thing:

Free exchange of information.

This is a different world than we are used to: we're used to a commodity driven market. Today, there's even things like code component sales websites, when even /I/ remember there was a time when basically everything like it was completely free.

Because of this, I see why piracy can be - and I emphasize can be - completely and absolutely /necessary/ in helping forge a better future for our world, and influence our movement towards a more egalitarian society.

A young aspiring artist in Colombia, for instance, if he has the hardware, can get himself twenty-thousand dollars worth of audio-related programs completely free of charge.

A poor kid from the Bronx with a real talent for graphics design and 3D modeling might get himself the major digital programs in these fields - and have lots of practice (and a great portfolio) to get him into a decent college on a full scholarship.

People can have free, personal, digital copies of just about any and every book they could ever dream of, complete with notes they can carry with them - and reference to the same document - the rest of their lives.

People who otherwise can't enjoy entertainment because of economic class can enjoy having digital movies, music, and games that they otherwise wouldn't have personal access to, except via radio or television - which produces another filter between them and the consent-manufacturing media, a media that in general is horribly biased and controlled by corporate interest. Television channels like FOX (FAUX) News make this blatantly apparent, and are truly an insult, in my opinion, to the intelligence of the modern human being.

Indeed, in our modern world, digital piracy has begun chipping away at what was once the walls between socioeconomic status. And if we don't allow this to continue, we are making it apparent that, like the Hindu of India in ancient times, we collectively desire a caste system, separating by degree of opportunity.
