Feb. 24th, 2011 08:32 pmMy C2 key on my keyboard decided to stop working today. It still sends midi information for the aftertouch. But it won't register the key strike. Oh, yay. Warranty is long gone. Sending the thing back would probably cost $40 bucks alone, besides part and labor or whatever. Fuck that.
I guess that means part of whatever I make in the next couple months goes to a new keyboard. I'm thinking an 88-key Studio-Logic. Semi-affordable at about $599. I'll deal with the missing key until then. Or maybe I should wait and see if I get hired on full time afterwards...because if I do, I might as well just get the Studiologic Numa, which is $1,000 but has keys that are supposedly indistinguishable from a real grand piano. Or I'll go check out what's available at some of the music stores within 60 miles. Probably that one should come first. Unfortunately the Numa isn't what you would call portable...I'd almost prefer to get a keyboard that can be hooked up to a computer/laptop, but also has a good-sounding piano sampler in the hardware. I want to be portable in different kinds of ways, and I'm not exactly sure I want to invest in a laptop yet. The longer I wait, the more bang for my buck.
After I pay my debt to my stupid college, and buy that keyboard, I'll sit on whatever's left. If I'm lucky, I'll have $1,000+. Maybe drop it all into my loans. If they hire me on after shutdown, I'll be sitting pretty though...should be able to get rid of my loans by the end of the year. Otherwise back to the mill with me, or to Blair to work on phones. Either way is fine.
I think I won't make the decision to go back to college until I'm 24. I think I'd rather make some money, and clear my record of the two fucking years I spent in junior college...and hopefully get all the gear I'll need to be happy for quite some time...and save for emergencies.
Seems like the intelligent thing to do.
