Starting to wonder...
Dec. 7th, 2008 09:47 pmIf my slump in music is caused by over analysis of the method by which music is composed.
Seriously. I have learned absolute shit loads in the past few years with regards to music, synthetic sound creation, all of that. And in the end, what it breaks down to is you either have it or you don't. Quite literally. You can spend all the time you want on something, but in the end, if you don't have it from the start, you might as well scrap it and move on. There's some things that I forgot from when I first started, like listening for the next note (hearing the next note, before it is written or determined) and I think I need to get back to those roots or else I'm never going to be able to compose good music again.
Theory scares the hell out of me because it's almost always right. But is it always right because musicians learned theory, or because it has some intrinsic, universal truth to it?
If you ask me, most musicians are just a bunch of copy cats. You don't know how many times I've heard pachebel's canon. Seriously. TOO MANY TO COUNT.
It's fucking annoying. And singers that sound like other singers because they "idolize."
Get a fucking grip. You're nothing special unless you're unique. Start to realize you have unique genetic code and utilize it, gods freaking damnit. Stop trying to be like everyone else. STOP TRYING TO FIT IN.
